Winter Math Activity

Would your kids love to have an indoor snowball fight?  They can with this fun winter math activity!

Winter Math and Alphabet Activity

Materials:

  • Snowball Fight game boards
  • mini marshmallows

Directions:

Kids take turns throwing snowballs (marshmallows) at each other.  They play this “Battleship” inspired game by calling out places on their game board grid. When a player correctly guesses where their opponent is hiding, it’s a direct hit and they win!

Winter Math Activity: Snowball Fight

My kiddos played this game together and loved it! You can download it HERE for FREE!

The game comes with instructions, game board markers and four different game boards to choose from:

–Small grid using 5 letters and 5 numbers
–Large grid using 10 letters and 5 numbers
–An alphabet grid
–Numbers 1-20 grid

The alphabet grid that’s also included in the activity is a fun way for students to practice letter identification.

It’s a great game for preschool or kindergarten students to play for centers or indoor play on these cold winter days.

I also have a FREE winter emergent reader to go along with this game in my TPT store. “Snowball Fight” is a fun and interactive winter emergent reader that your beginning readers will love! The simple, predictable text focuses on the number words one through ten.

On each page with a number word, students draw that amount of snowballs in the bucket. They simply use a crayon or marker to do this, or they cut small round circles out of cardstock and glue on as snowballs. Another idea is to use a small marshmallow or small round object and stamp snowballs on with white paint. An equal mixture of liquid glue and shaving cream makes puffy paint which is a fun alternative as well!

Take a look at examples of some of the emergent reader pages by checking out this post I did about it.

I hope your students enjoy this winter math activity and emergent reader!
